Around the 1970's many riots began to spur to bring awareness the issues the LGBT community wanted everyone to be hear about. It wasn't until this and the long tribulations of trying to get those in power such as political leaders to help their cause did much progress start to spur. In the beginning however, many people were shy of their sexuality as raids were being done and homosexuals were looked down upon. In an effort to make people own up to their sexuality leaders had to emphasize why you should be comfortable in your own skin and that unity is ultimately will be what gets the LGBT community to prevail. As the 90's came around the amount of people with HIV/AIDS had skyrocketed and the need for something to be done exponentially rose. Radicalization seemed to be the only way people would really listen so they were turned to going back to this tactic. Today, much has changed and progressed and this is due to leaders of the gay movement. With the new president in office, who knows if the LGBT community will be able to progress especially as the new election has spurred a different aura in the nation among his followers with conservatism rising.
